After being inspired initially from the shadows that she saw on the grass of the trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out to develop a technique which didn't depict the object in a 2D image. The object becomes a representation that is its own while the canvas is carrying its own interpretation painted by the object, especially when it is a living item or something perishable, for example, fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting which is very ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only thing of her art to survive is the photo. Photography and painting techniques are tightly coordinated, resulting in a flat two-dimensional area that is trompe l'oeil. Only certain parts of the image, like the hair or eyes, display the three-dimensional dimension. Meade occasionally integrates painted models within the surrounding space. It allows them to be part of the world she has created. This eliminates the distinctions between photography, painting, and installation.
