Madekwe is a British-Nigerian mixed race child, was born to the family of South London. She is English, and her father was Nigerian. Ashley's siblings, who are all athletic, played baseball during the summer and played hockey in the winter months. Ashley was never able to walk. She danced. So when she was two and a half, she began to take part in Baby Ballet. Ashley discovered a love for dancing shortly after she joined Baby Ballet. Ashley continued to dance competitively throughout high school with top divisions like ballet, tap, Jazz and Pointe. She also competed in Acrobatics, Acrobatics Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, and more. She also won best soloist awards at all important dance competitions like the International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance among others.
